Certificates of Insurance
Memorandum of Insurance
Starting in 2024, Stanford University transitioned from using a Certificate of Insurance (COI) to a Memorandum of Insurance (MOI) to evidence insurance coverage. The MOI can be accessed by the University community on demand, thanks to Stanford’s insurance broker, Marsh. Vendors and other certificate requesters can also obtain the needed information online, as well as save and print copies of the MOI at any time. This system ensures that information is accurate and timely, streamlining the process and reducing the time and resources required for all parties involved.
The Stanford University MOI link directs users to the Marsh page, where they are prompted to review the access terms, select “I agree,” and submit before viewing the MOI. The MOI displays Stanford’s current insurance programs, including insurance companies, policy numbers, limits, and effective dates.

Additional Insured Status or Waiver of Subrogation
Occasionally, outside parties may request to be listed as Additional Insured or require a Waiver of Subrogation on the insurance certificate. The MOI includes blanket wording from the University’s insurance policy, automatically extending this status to outside parties if it is required in the agreement. There is no need for a specific endorsement or change to the insurance policy for this status to be provided.
